One Last Breath

An opera without words,
Music rings like wildebeest herds,
Thundering through earth’s heaven
My heart pauses at eleven eleven
Wishing upon a star out of sight
Beyond the ghastly moon white
Far from the sun’s rays of light
In the deepness of eternal night
My dream now given up to atonement
But now receiving only judgement
My sins poured out like leaves in fall
Heavens store house’s bounteous hall
Taking two steps back and one down
In the wallows of my despair I drown
Without a safety net to hold back
In my chest I feel a crack
Out flows the waters of the Nile
Not fresh cold and clear but red and vile
Poisoned the land infertile from the breath
Of God’s sacred servant of unnatural death
Taking from nature one last lungful of air
My soul out of my body does tear
One more moment free from despair
And one last silent slow prayer
