Where Night is Not Black

Thoughts on Now

With the clouds building up without a clear patch
The skies have now been filled with white cover
Now turning to the earth I see you standing
You make the sky turn from dark to light

Rain pours down from skies laden like a slave
Swelling the rivers and casting down in the darkness
These showers that give the earth renewed life
Amid this your body I hold with a hand cautious

Does your heart long for my holding arms?
My arms long to hold you again
Will you come to me, despite me?
My heart longs to see you again

Silence above, silence around, nothing but you and me
Together, how often will we be able to hold each other?
Before the end of youth and great things come on us
Like a storm raging, ruining like a rolling boulder

Now I hold you close to me. Standing without care
You feel cold, you tell me not to worry
I don’t feel the rain or darkness falling from the sky
My heart has a consuming fire for your beauty

Does your heart long for my holding arms?
My arms long to hold you again
Will you come to me, despite me?
My heart longs to see you again

Walking slowly, now, we must part to our separate ways of life
Hopefully for only a time, but who on earth can tell the future
Time changes everything, our lives hold so few certainties
Our walks may end, like shrapnel ripping through a body
Felling the one who stood once so proud and full of life
So don’t forget me, wait please, let me try
Give me a chance, your heart to win,
As the sun now rises over us,
Make me a happy man,
Let me fall for you,
And fall for me,
Too.
